Subtle service
It’s so hard to think about subtle service in daily life because it’s something that is done without really contemplating it before or after. Subtle service is done not with the intentions of receiving anything in return, but merely to do a random act of kindness. For some people, their actions are overlooked as subtle service because it is a daily occurrence. They include little things such as sending a friendly smile to a stranger, taking out a friends trash, helping someone carry something, and the one most common to the campus of Virginia Tech, holding the door for someone. When someone holds the door for you, you feel obligated to hold the door for the person behind you. There is actually a foundation known as the Pay It Forward Foundation that is based off that idea, that when someone shows kindness towards you, you show it to someone else. It is the small and subtle service that can make the biggest impact.
